Updates to the opt-in management process
We have recently been working on improving your experience with the opt-in functionality, giving you more control over your data.
Please note: For anyone who has an integration with Wired Plus, don't worry. These changes are 100% backwards compatible and it will operate as you currently expect. If you want to make use of the changes though, please get in touch with your Account Manager and they can explain the benefits it has introduced.
Here is a look at what has changed:
Two new opt-in types
We have added two new opt-in types, meaning a contact can belong to one of four types:
- (NEW) Not Opted-In - The contact has not opted in to receive marketing communications but can still be contacted due to legitimate interest or for transactional messages (non-marketing purposes)
- Single - The contact has opted in to receive marketing communications
- Double - The contact has opted in to receive marketing communications and has been verified outside of Wired Plus
- (NEW) Verified Double - The contact has opted in to receive marketing communications and has been verified inside Wired Plus - they have confirmed their opt-in choice through the opt-in trigger email.
When importing new contacts, you will see the new options listed under 'opt in type'.
New Opt-in Settings page
Under your account settings area, we have added a new 'Opt-in Settings' page - previously called 'Mail Settings'.
You will see it listed on the menu on the left-hand side of the Settings page. (Please note: You will only see it if you have permissions enabled to access Opt-in Settings.)
From here, you will be able to manage how the opt-in process you want contacts to follow.
Require new contacts to confirm their opt-in status
For any new contacts that are added from a signup form or a survey, you can now require them to be double verified.
This means that when a contact submits their details on your form/survey, they will need to confirm their choice to opt-in through the opt-in trigger email.
Once the contact confirms via the trigger email, their opt-in status will be classed as 'Verified Double' and they will be added to your active contacts.
If they don't confirm via the trigger email, they won't be added as an active contact - they will be classed as 'Pending'.
To set up opt-in verification on your forms and/or surveys, simply select the toggles on the 'Opt-in Settings' page.
Set up a custom opt-in trigger email
You can now choose to send a custom trigger campaign to send to contacts to confirm their opt-in status.
Once you've created your trigger campaign, you'll be able to select from the 'Opt-in Settings' page. Under 'Verification Email', select the trigger campaign from the dropdown.
Please note: To create trigger campaigns, you will need to be on a Professional or Enterprise license in order to access the Automation feature.
If you don't want to set up a custom trigger email, simply select 'system default' from the dropdown.
New 'Pending' area for contacts who haven't confirmed their opt-in status
If you have enabled the opt-in verification on your forms/surveys, once a new contact is added via those methods, they will be classed as 'Pending' until they confirm their opt-in status through the opt-in trigger email.
You will not be able to send any marketing communications to contacts with a 'Pending' status.
They will only be added as an active contact when they have confirmed their opt-in status.
If a contact rejects the opt-in message via the trigger email, the contact will move from 'Pending' to 'Suppressed'.
To view your pending contacts, navigate to 'Subscribers' on the main navigation bar and select 'Pending Opt-Ins' from the dropdown.
You will then see a list of contacts who have received an opt-in email but haven't yet confirmed their opt-in status.
You will be able to see the time and date of when the last opt-in email was sent.
You can also resend the opt-in email from here - simply click on the cog icon next to the relevant contact, and select 'Re-send opt-in email'.
